Street life Sicilian style

As one of the world’s top destinations for street food, Palermo was a tempting place for a summer visit. The food lived up to its reputation but it was the streets themselves that were a visual feast for our roving photographer.

The Sicilian al fresco lifestyle means that some kind of domestic or social drama seems to be playing out on every corner and in every doorway: inhibited is not a word to describe Palermo’s inhabitants. The occasional hint of menace was far outweighed by warmth and friendliness – more cosy nostra than cosa nostra.

This selection of images captures a bit of both.
